6.5 Earthquake Hits Humboldt County

At about 4:30 pm on Saturday, January 9th, Humboldt County got hit with the biggest earthquake we've had in over a decade.

This is a REMINDER. A WAKE UP CALL for all of Humboldt to Get Prepared!

  • Have a disaster kit at home and in your car.
  • Understand that you need to Drop, Cover and Hold onto something when the earthquake is happening
  • Have an out of state phone number that you and your family in Humboldt can call. This is especially useful when, like in this earthquake, we couldn't make local calls
  • Keep your gas tank at least 1/2 full at all times
  • There are many many more tips to be prepared. Check this site, or come into the chapter offices to pick up a copy of "Living on Shaky Ground," which is free to all.
